LEGACY
red sands fort
Named after a designer Guy Maunsell, these armed towers were built in the Thames and Mersey estuaries during the Second World War, and operated as army and navy forts. Decommissioned in the late 1950s, and later used for pirate radio broadcasting stations. UK government plans to demolish Red Sands Fort, but a consortium called Project Redsands try to conserve the fort.
The iron fortress that still stands still brings the profoundness and melancholy of the past towards the other side of oblivion.
